Open Up to the Impossibilities

God is looking for people through whom he can do the impossible – what a pity that we only plan the things that we can do by ourselves.

Remember how the disciples sometimes seemed surprised when Jesus performed a miracle, or equated him to other great men of faith rather than to Jehovah? It was as if they didn’t comprehend that he was fully God.

It never occurred to them that Jesus could calm a storm with a few words, had they but asked him.

At the Transfiguration, they wanted to build temples not only in honor of him, but in honor of Elijah and Moses as well.

And they were surprised when they could not cast out a demon, but he could.

For a time, this lack of understanding limited their faith and what they could accomplish for God. But if you fast-forward through the Gospels to the book of Acts, it quickly becomes apparent that after Christ’s Ascension, their faith grew from the size of a mustard seed to that of a full-grown tree, a bit like Jack’s overnight bean stalk.

They no longer relied upon their own finite abilities, but God’s infinite power…and they began to do the impossible.

They spoke in tongues, healed the sick and maimed, raised the dead, and escaped earthquakes and locked prisons.

Ultimately, they were not afraid to die in his name. To me, that seems impossible!

I wonder, do I limit what God can do through me because I focus only on what is possible through my own efforts? Do you?

I encourage you to ask him for greater faith and an open mind to do what seems impossible. I will do the same!
