My daughter, Shae, has long worn a simple, contemporary stainless steel cross necklace. It’s sort of her signature, and it exemplifies her desire to incorporate Christ into every part of her life.
For about ten years, I’ve had my own cross necklace, a gift from my husband. It’s simple as well, with a slightly Celtic flair. I wore it for a long time, took it off during my youngest son’s babyhood (the cross bears his faint teeth marks), and wore it occasionally after that.
But several weeks ago, I asked Shae if she would mind if I started wearing mine all the time, as she does. I didn’t want her to think I was stealing her concept! But I liked the idea of wearing a symbol of my faith, every hour of every day.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:2
When I exercise in the morning, the pendant swings with my movements, encouraging me to work harder.
When I get ready to go somewhere, the cross’s image in the mirror reminds me that my appearance should glorify the One to whom I belong.
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. – Galatians 6:14
That tiny cross against my skin is a constant reminder of Christ’s admonition to daily take up my cross and follow him: serving my family, loving the children in my church class, respecting my body, speaking words of kindness.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. – Matthew 16:24
What serves to remind you of Christ’s presence? I welcome your thoughts and ideas.
It’s great that you started wearing your cross necklace too 😊✝

This is a beautiful symbol of our faith.
In today’s secular society, not everyone understands what the cross
symbolizes. Years ago, I wore a similar cross, and one one my students,
a lovely young woman, gathered her courage, and asked me one day
why I wear ” the letter t” around my neck. I took the time to share with
her that this was not a letter of the alphabet, but a symbol of
Christianity. Thanks for posting .

Wow, what a story. How sad that your student did not recognize the cross! Perhaps I will have the opportunity to talk about Christ to someone who may ask about my necklace as well.

I loved reading about the interaction with Shae, it is heartening to see such familial ties. I just wrote about how prayer keeps the Lord before me, especially as I pray for everyone I see. Blessings ♥

I have a chain that I wear constantly. I’ve worn a cross on it before (it slipped off somehow), and I’m currently using a medal of Saint Stephen, appropriate in that I am an ordained Catholic deacon. It reminds me of my call to service to God and community, and I don’t feel dressed without it. Blessings to you and Shae– Mike

I used to wear a cross necklace all the time – my uncle gave it to me. I wore it until it broke. 😅 After it broke, for my birthday that year he gave me one that says grace on it, and I wear it all the time now as a constant reminder of His grace. 😊 (Though I imagine he gave it to me because my name is Grace. 🙂)

When I got my calling two years ago, I found an old wooden cross necklace that I remember buying from an abbey years before. I wear it everyday, no matter where I go. Some people have told me to take it off because ‘I wouldn’t want to put people off’ or ‘offend anyone’ with it, though I have stuck with it despite the comments. The thing is, Jesus is part of me, and I am part of Him and I am not afraid to show that. Lovely blog post – I look forward to reading more from you. X

I agree. I’m not offended if someone else wears a symbol of their faith – it’s a good conversation starter, and I can’t imagine how it would be offensive. Keep doing what you’re doing! 😊

I LOVE THIS! I am a massive fan of symbolism. I have cross rings that I wear a lot. I also have leather bracelets with some short phrases that signify valuable lessons within my life.
This may sound cheesy, but I notice signs that signify His presence like I am always focusing on connections and correlations between my present moment and the previous thoughts and prayers that have occurred within my life. Such a great post! Blessings!

She does such a great job with photos of all sorts. The rest of the shirt says, “kindness rules.” My kids got it for me. 😊
