Since I began this blog about a year ago, my reasons for blogging have changed.
At first, I blogged to hone my writing skills. My freelance work is steady, but assignments are generally weeks apart. Blogging provided needed practice.
As well, my posts provided a way to extend a branch to a community of like-minded people. You see, my everyday world is small. My family and I live on the outskirts of a tiny, though charming, Midwestern farming town; although we wouldn’t exchange our acres of woods and fields for city life, we don’t have many opportunities to meet people who share our interests.
And then, through WordPress, so many lovely people entered my life. That’s you, friend! You have taken time to read, follow, and comment. Across thousands of miles, your words have uplifted me, challenged me, and blessed me.
Through your presence in my tiny corner of the blogosphere, you have encouraged me to invest sincere effort in blogging. I want to put forth my best writing efforts, whether I’m recounting a personal experience, sharing a poem, or discussing a passage from Scripture. In so doing, I have been reminded of the importance of both editing and accuracy, particularly when dealing with the Bible.
A desire for accuracy has led me to study the Scriptures more than I ever have. Although I attended a Christian grade school and college, and I’ve taught Bible classes for years, I rarely studied the Bible in a personal way that led not only to a greater knowledge of God, but to a deeper love for him.
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. – Ephesians 3:19
And I owe a good deal of that spiritual fulfillment to you, friends.
Touching base with you, and spending more time with my Lord, have become my new and improved reasons for blogging.
Thank you! As Hebrews 10:24 says, your kind interest has “provoked (me) unto love and to good works.”
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. – Ephesians 4:11-13
Why do you blog? Have your reasons changed through your blogging experience? How has your life been impacted by the WordPress community?
From someone in the Midwest to another… Yes, blogging has changed my writing a lot since I began. As with my writing songs and poetry, I always writing into as many genres as I can, but one common thread that is sown again and again are words of my spirituality and Christianity… Not a bad gig for my muse… I went from posting works I had written over the years to brand new works almost daily. Another practice for me is to blog during the week and not on the weekends or evenings. I want my life with my wife on the weekends and evenings. God bless and all the best!

Reaching people for Jesus was my first goal! And now, I also like interacting with friends on here, writing about lessons I learned, and reading other people’s blogs and being encouraged by them. Blogging has helped me become a better photographer as well!

Thank you as well! Though I don’t always comment, yours is one blog that I regularly read. It is easy to tell you write for a living as your work is excellent. I too live in a small community, and the ability to be in touch with others in this medium blesses me daily.
I began blogging at the encouragement of my wife. Several years ago, as I stepped away from full-time secular work to devote myself to our ministry, I found that I had some time to further develop sermon thoughts and ideas into blog form. I continue doing this now as another way to spread the message of hope that is Jesus Christ. The additional blessing for me is the getting to know other folks around the globe on the blog-o-sphere!
Blessings to you and please keep writing,
Pastor Chuck

Sounds like we both have wonderful spouses. 😊 I love that WordPress offers us a platform to fulfill the Great Commission, and to support one another as we do so. You are regularly in my prayers, Pastor Chuck! God bless.

I find it inspiring when one thing leads to another. In this case, you were looking to improve your skills and instead found friends and a deeper conviction for God. I’m thrilled to have read of your journey. Best wishes always, and may God bless you with whatever you do!

I too think its wonderful that we can share the love of Christ on a social platform and grow with each other. We help sharpen our skills and love with hopes to inspire others and share His love as intended.

I relate entirely with your sentiments. I thought blogging was something that would help me hone my writing voice and it has, but the community of encouraging Christians has been a spectacular bonus. It’s almost like the internet can be used for good?

Hard to believe that the internet can be a force for good, I know what you mean!

For me, it was a way for me to ‘go into the world and preach the gospel’. Along with that has come a community I never knew excited. It has been good!

I love this post! And how special that the Lord has drawn you closer to Him on this journey! For me, I started blogging because I felt very specifically called to do so, including confirmation from the Lord through a dream — to share with others His beauty, with the longing that we would all know Him deeper!

I’m not one of those who has set a very godly example to one as pure as you, but I am grateful for our blogging friendship. Some times you and Shae are the only spiritual nourishment I get. Thank you.

I am so far from pure…just ask my husband! Trying to be Christ-like is a moment-by-moment lifestyle. But if sharing my experiences has helped you, I’m glad. And by the way, you ARE inspiring. You have come so far in your life, dealing with OCD, writing your books, running marathons, being a great dad and spouse – that’s why people are drawn to your blog.

Great post. I began my blog seven years ago with the one goal of helping others find hope in Christ. I never thought that the friends I’ve made would increase my hope in Christ.
